About us
Lancashire Advocacy is a registered charity governed by an executive committee.
Our aims:
- To promote, develop and support Advocacy provision and user involvement throughout the county.
How we work to achieve our aims:
Awareness Raising
- We provide training about advocacy, user involvement and empowering practice to statuatory services, care providers, voluntary sector organisations and groups/charities throughout Lancashire.
- We also host a direct experience trainers project called GEM (Giving Experience Meaning) enabling service users to design and delivery training to service providersabout their experience of using services.
Establishing, Developing and supporting Advocacy Projects
We are aware that it is often local projects who are best placed to run advocacy services to effectively address local need.
Lancashire Advocacy can play a major role in identifying unmet need and setting up local projects to address these needs. Once projects are established we provide ongoing support and development along with comprehensive training packages for staff and volunteers.
We also provide an extensive resource library containing information on all aspects advocacy and related topics.
We support and provide training to service user groups to facilitate their ability to influence service provision. We are in the process of extending this work. We host the Gem project which is a direct experience training project. We employ a Self Advocacy worker who works with Self advocacy groups throughout Lancashire.
We have an extensive resource library containing information on all aspects of advocacy and related topics.
We produce a regular newsletter called Voicemail, with a distribution list of over 250 people / organisations.
We have a noticeboard on this website for the exchange of information.
We have a series of comprehensive training packages for advocacy providers / voluntary organisations / statutory services / user groups. These vary in length from one hour talks to six day courses
